Moon Rocks……..too cool!

Well, I am once again getting certified to check out the moon rocks from NASA.  This is the third time for me, but if this is something that you have not done I would suggest it.  It is a really cool thing for the kids and interesting to boot.

What is Scientific Inquiry?

Things that make you go hmmmm…………………………..

I love these questions. I know the answer, but in the paniced mind of a college student a blank is often what is drawn, or you tend to get stuck in one rut and unable to get out.

More to come…….

Good Morning………from Fairmont, WV

Day three of the NASA Aware training begins.  We willl be discussing how to reinvigorate these old units, that NASA paid a lot for I am sure, with the 5E instructional model.

The hands on things that NASA offers are very very good! The units are nice, they just don’t have the umph of PBL.  So last night we worked to make one or more of the possible activities a little more……..engaging, exciting, and so forth and so on.

I am eagerly awaiting my turn to discuss mine and see what feedback, if any I get.  I like to use PBL units and such to engage my students, so this was not too much of a leap for me.

Oh well, time to learn!!

Learning Cycle for Exploring the Moon and Exploring Meteorite Mysteries

Tonight I have homework.  My task is to look over the content in the binder I have received and develop a learning cycle for one of the activities in Exploring the Moon or Exploring Meteorite Mysteries sections.  I will be adding that information here as I complete that task this evening for all to see.

I have decided on Meteorite Impacts Over Time as my 5E Lesson.  I think this will be a good one, it can definately show connections between the sciences.  I am still working, but wanted to put some additional information out here…..:)

I have been working hard to create this great lesson using the 5E’s and it is coming along nicely.  I will not post the lesson as of today to the site, because I am awaiting feedback from class tomorrow, and then I will want to revise it, but soon there will be a nice lesson, that has great Depth of Knowledge, utilizes 21st Century skills, and allows students to gain self esteem through success all in one great lesson.  I am going to create a page on here just for lesson plans and this will definately be one of those.

NASA Aware

Sitting in this classroom that is a bit to warm for me the last two days has been surprisingly rewarding for me.  It has provided insight on more than one level.  I am surrounded primarily by Elementary teachers, with a few middle school teachers mixed in.

It has been extremely enlightening to say the least.  We have been watching the successful orbit reached by the NASA   Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter or LRO, which can be followed online at NASA on Titter .

One of the instructors has been teaching us about the Learning Cycle of instruction.  This is the first time I have received any instruction based upon the Learning Cycle model and I am finding it a great addition to my bag of tricks.  It reminds me to a point of the PBL model, just slightly different, and actually a little easier to understand.  Well gotta run!! Time to play again!

Learning Cycle

Welcome to my blog

Well, as I am sitting in a NASA staff development, and ahead of the pack, I thought I would get this party started right now.  I have been mulling, is that a word?? over the idea of starting a blog for sometime.  I have tried a few times, and have not ever really been able to get it started.  But, I have decided to try and try again, since I did not at first succeed.

I am always busy, but often consulted for ideas, and just plain ole help with a menagerie of things in education.  I love DI and PBL and even the Learning Cycle.  I use APL strategies and Teaching with Love and Logic.  And who can ignore the Interactive Science Notebook and the foldables?  I really could go on and on, but I will stop, because if you track my blog and read my blog you will find many resources and many ideas.

This will be a blog with a heart, so if you are not in teaching for the love of it, this may not be the place for you.  But maybe it is, because if you are not in it for the love I would hope that my love of teaching and students would inspire you to become “that sort of teacher”.  You know the one.  The one who plays music, and dances around the room with wild abandon.

Well, that is gonna wrap this one up, but I will post again tonight and post often.  I have a lot of resources and I am hoping that this blog will help me to stay a little better organized in my online world, I get lost sometimes, I have been looking for myself all day, but I am no where to be found, lol
